After spending years in a space that was inconveniently located, uninviting, ill equipped and not conducive to their collaborative working style, the Alberta Museums Association made a move to a new, centrally located, office. The new AMA offices are located in Edmonton’s Gallery District (124 Street), on the fourth floor of a building that receives an abundance of natural light.

Through an integrated design process, the designers at Manasc Isaac involved all members of the AMA team to create an inviting space that would reflect their organization and suit their needs.

To create a space conducive to a collaborative working style, a wall between two existing offices was removed. This openness also allows for the addition of workstations if ever necessary. Closed-door offices have glass partitions allowing the natural light to reach the core of the space. The colours chosen for the office space are vibrant, crisp and professional reflecting the brand of the organization. The kitchen area accommodates a full fridge, microwave and dishwasher and long table that can also serve as an informal meeting area. Other meeting areas include a centrally located chat bar and a cozy reading nook.

Perhaps the most beneficial aspect of this renovation is the shift in morale of the AMA staff. The new flexible, vibrant and open space has made staff more comfortable and proud of their working environment. The physical change in the office has helped renew the organization allowing the association to move forward.

"The design process was very inclusive and provided all staff with the opportunity to give input into the initial concept...Manasc Isaac's design team listened to our wants and needs and were able to make that into a reality.

Everyone loves the vibrancy of the space! And because it reflects the branding of the organization, especially with the use of the green, visitors to the space know immediately that it’s the AMA office.

The staff are very proud of the space and like to show it off.  They enjoy its flexibility, especially the informal chat bar and reading nook, have settled almost immediately and have become very comfortable in their areas." - Alexandra Hatcher, Executive Director, Alberta Museums Association
