Amiskwaciy Academy is an urban First Nations High School, the first institution of its kind in Canada. The mission of the school is to guide First Nations Youth in realizing their academic, spiritual and personal potential.  Formerly an airport terminal building, Amiskwaciy Academy was designed in consultation with Elders, students and educators in order to create a unique learning environment.

Through an active consultation program, this unique facility was designed over a very active 8-month schedule. The project was fast-tracked based on an architect-led design-build model.

“It certainly will be their home, their place of learning; it will reflect the fundamental values of our people”.

Phyllis Cardinal, former Principal, Amiskwaciy Academy
