Archibishop MacDonald School renovation

Edmonton, AB, Canada

K-12 Education

May, 1997

  • Overview

Edmonton Catholic Schools commissioned Manasc Isaac to find a solution to alleviate the pedestrian and vehicular bottleneck at Archbishop MacDonald High School’s south entrance. In turn, the project presented an opportunity to create a prominent identity for this academically oriented high school.

The solution involves modest site work to improve vehicular flow and to expand the south entrance and cafeteria. The new entrance will be a welcoming two-storey space to encourage interaction while providing ample waiting space for students during the winter months.

The adjacent cafeteria will be reconfigured to enable a greater variety of uses, ranging from mingling space, sit-down eating, café-style seating and internet stations. The barrier between the cafeteria and adjacent corridors is to be replaced with rolling doors, thus encouraging extended use of the cafeteria.
