Assumption Day School

Assumption, AB, Canada

K-12 Education, First Nations

Completed

March, 2009

  • Overview

Exterior renovations and the addition of two new entrances have done much to improve the image of this Dene Tha’ First Nation school.

Located 60 miles west of High Level, this aging school was in need of an energy retrofit and a new image. Working closely with Chief and Council, Manasc Isaac  developed designs for new entrances and new natural cedar siding. The entrance design was adapted from a beaded treaty belt dating from the 1820’s, and symbolizes, in this context, mutual assistance and respect between children of different ages and adult members of the community.
