Athabasca University Administration Wing Renovation

Athabasca, AB, Canada

Post Secondary, Interior Design

Completed

June, 2007

  • Overview

This renovation to the Athabasca University administrative areas created two main reception areas, ten enclosed offices, seven open space work stations and a new boardroom. The renovation improved the previous work spaces and created links to the Boreal forest in which the university is located. An existing outdoor patio was made more accessible and usable for the administrative staff to enjoy the summer months.

Seventy-five percent of the work space has immediate access to daylight and exterior views to the surrounding Boreal forest. Re-installing the existing hot water pipes beneath the open work station access floor created an efficient and cost effective radiant heating method.

State-of-the-art video/audio conferencing technology was designed into the millwork, walls, ceilings, and floors of the new twenty-person boardroom. Programmable lighting controls, access flooring, and sun shading devices allow the space plenty of flexibility based on current and future requirements.
