Athabasca University Masterplan

Athabasca, AB, Canada

Masterplan, Post Secondary

Completed

June, 2006

  • Overview

The Campus Development Plan will provide a practical planning framework to assist Athabasca University in accommodating growth and development on its campuses over the next 25 years. The Campus Development Plan applies to Athabasca University Central Campus, the Edmonton and Calgary Learning Centres, and the Centre for Innovative Management in St. Albert. This unique non-residential campus leads the country in distance education.

The Master Plan anticipates all aspects of growth on this campus over the next 25 years, including the need for long-term growth in research, academic, distance and virtual learning modalities. The Master Plan contemplates the construction of three new buildings, a major renovation of the existing facilities and the development of research and eco-industrial facilities.

Located on a significant site overlooking the Town of Athabasca, the University’s main campus was master planned by Manasc Isaac  to integrate new facilities for this growing academic community. The Campus Development plan balances the need for water course and wildlife corridor protection with the need for new healthy and sustainable buildings.
