Operating from a facility that they have outgrown, the City of Camrose retained us to design a new city hall. Having studied a handful of sites, we recommended the current site, a short distance away from Camrose’s vibrant main street. Over time, it is our hope that the new city hall extend the warm pedestrian character of the main street to out site.
Mindful of our larger urban goal, we designed a new building with an engaging south forecourt. The building itself is a ‘long fellow’; stretching east and west. This, we have found, is an ideal configuration for better energy efficiency, more light penetration, better air circulation and more views of the outdoors for staff within the building.
Conceptually, the new city hall also tells the story of this place, beginning with the big melt. Subtle references to settlement (via the railroad) and contemporary time (via the multiple pitches of grain elevators) mark this as a distinctly Camrose Building.
This project is currently in the contract document phase.
