Knowledge, order, discipline and respect are qualities that inform military police work. By parts truck stop, visitor information, jail and training facility, this small police building must carry out its roles with the minimum of fuss and bother.

The flat prairie grassland on the edge of the boreal forest, under the towering Alberta sky, is the setting for the Guardhouse. The building hugs the ground, wrapping spaces around an interior courtyard to protect it from winter winds. The public entry is located closest to the main site entry and public parking for security. The second floor training room facing the airfield provides a vantage point for policing the perimeter fence and entry gates of the security zone of the airfield. Separate zones for patrol staff, detention facilities and police storage and vehicles are located adjacent to the main wing containing offices and support spaces.

The mainly one-storey building is made of durable, economical materials for long life and minimum maintenance. The smooth and corrugated exterior wall cladding presents an orderly, professional face to the public. The partial masonry base recalls the historic use of masonry on base facilities.
