Groundbreaking sustainable buildings

École Notre Dame

Edmonton, AB, Canada

K-12 Education

Completed

December, 2001

  • Overview

Mansasc Isaac modernized École Notre Dame School, originally built in the 1950's, to upgrade interior and exterior finishes and replace outmoded building systems.

The main entrance to the original building was difficult to find from the street. The addition of a permanent vestibule functionally improved the entrance by creating a clear point of entry while making a statement about the school’s integration in the community.

Other changes required to improve functionality included an expansion of the library. The existing formal stage was relinquished in favour of a two-storey library space including a mezzanine. A penthouse to enclose the fan room above the entrance addition was included in the construction.

This renovation was done at the same time as  École Pere Lacombe.
