Groundbreaking sustainable buildings

Fountain Park

St. Albert, AB, Canada

Municipal, Cultural

Completed

December, 1998

  • Overview

This project developed from the desire to better use the spaces of the existing facility. The new competition pool tank is placed directly north of the existing tank resulting in a large architectural space with visual impact that is easy to supervise. Exterior finishes integrate the overall appearance of the existing building and additions into a coherent whole, while trying to maximize the cost benefit of the finishes.

The following is a general summary of the building programme:

  • New 8 lane, 25 metre pool
  • New 30 person whirlpool
  • New water slide
  • New sauna
  • New steam room
  • New café and seating area
  • Renovated and expanded concourse for public viewing
  • Convert two existing racquet ball courts into multipurpose rooms
  • New and expanded front entrance and reception
  • New private/family change rooms
  • Renovated and expanded men’s and women’s change rooms
