This four-storey, 7300 m2 building provides a comfortable, healthy and productive workplace to approximately 200 federal civil servants who were scattered among 15 separate departments in the City of Yellowknife. Designed to integrate interior and outdoor environments, the building is a positive addition to the downtown core. A green roof, photovoltaic panels integrated into high-performance curtainwall glazing and a delightful south-facing courtyard add to the sustainable building performance.

Together with other key building components such as raised access floors, narrow office footprint to fully utilize daylighting, water conservation strategies and high-efficiency mechanical systems, the Greenstone Building is designed to achieve 45% better energy usage than current ASHRAE standards and is certified LEED® Gold. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, this building is constructed of high flyash concrete and runs on propane rather than on natural gas.
