After the Town Hall in Hinton was lost to fire, a new facility was needed. Extensive community consultation resulted in the choice of a central site with spectacular views, a dramatic landscape, and a significant stand of trees.

The orientation of the building was carefully studied to optimize energy consumption as well as views from the well-loved central gathering space. Housing administration and Council spaces, the Hinton Town Hall and Government Centre creates a heart for this community, with sustainable strategies including use of local materials to create a warm ambiance .

Office spaces are designed for optimal flexibility using raised access flooring for cabling and ventilation. This innovative project was enrolled in the C-2000 programme for sustainable building design and received funding from the Commercial Building Incentive Program. Using domestic cold water as a coliing medium, the building was constructed without the need for chillers or cooling towers.
