Holyrood School ModernizationEdmonton, AB, Canada

Designed and constructed in 1955, with a substantial addition in 1957, the present day school is in need of renovations, additional space, and a new infusion of creativity so that the school once again matches the spirit of its occupants and neighbourhood.
Working with the school board, Holyrood school staff, students and parents and the surrounding community, Manasc Isaac’s vision is to create a community gathering point that reflects the friendliness of the school, its importance in the community and its continued commitment to teaching the Holyroodian Way to a new generation of citizens. We will use design innovation to reflect the youthful energy of an elementary school and its surrounding community while honouring the school’s history and heritage. The building will be flexible, functional, efficient, durable and accessible.
Sustainable features include a roof-mounted solar panel for water heating, high-efficiency heating, waterless urinals, operable windows and an environment flooded with natural light. The U-shaped school has an intriguing interior courtyard which we will revert from a parking lot back into green space.
