Judicial Precinct Urban Design VisionEdmonton , AB , Canada

Just north of the Arts District, Edmonton’s Judicial District is presently uninviting and somewhat forbidding. With the redevelopment of Churchill Square, the potential relocation of Canada Post operations and the imminent redevelopment of the Station Lands and the Art Gallery, this district has potential to become a rich part of the City’s fabric. The Urban Design challenge is to identify and strengthen connections between this district and the future Station Lands Development, thus expanding the vibrant north-east edge of Edmonton’s downtown.
New facilities envisioned include a hotel, housing, commercial space along 97th Street, and an expanded sidewalk. Making this part of the city pedestrian-oriented will attract people and activity to downtown living.
