École St. Gerard

Grande Prairie, AB, Canada

K-12 Education

Completed

September, 2006

  • Overview

Bursting at the seams due to enrollment pressures, the school board approved an addition and modernization to this 40-year-old academic school in 2004. Upon award of the project, we realized that our commission encompassed a diversity of other criteria, ranging from accommodation of allergies at a microscopic scale through to the alleviation of traffic congestion at the urban scale. A series of workshops was held for students, parents, teachers, community residents and planning officials in order to asses the full extent of issues affecting this project.

The end result is a school that has received enthusiastic buy-in from many, many participants, re-establishing this school’s pre-eminent position in the community.

“I would like to commend your organization for a PHENOMENAL job of facilitating parental input at the school. The meeting served several purposes from educating to allowing parents to feel a part of the modernization process. Your team did a great job of allowing the creative process to freely roll with the understanding that ideas generated eventually have to submit to a reality processor.”
