The Academic Research Centre is a sparkling addition to Athabasca University’s campus. Located in the small, rural community of Athabasca, the campus is a unique post-secondary institution, offering distance learning, with some on-site learning opportunities.

This contemporary building houses all of the University’s Academic Centres, the new University Collections Centre and a number of flexible meeting and collaborative spaces.

The space is bright and open, its clerestories and high window walls taking full advantage of natural daylight and the site’s pleasing views. Operable windows allow fresh air to circulate through the building, while a dramatic roof structure catches the eye and celebrates the local wood-based economy.

It’s not all eye candy; this building is LEED® Gold certified, integrating energy efficient building technologies such as a high-performance envelope, and underfloor air.
